Holidays…don’tcha love ’em? Oh, but how different they are with a small person in tow, especially if said small person is your baby, not just a vertically-challenged friend!
Given how much preparation is needed to go on a day trip with your new bundle of joy, imagine how long it will take to get ready for your first family holiday!
We’re kidding! This article is going to make the preparation much less onerous. We’ve even put a comprehensive packing list together for you (see below)!!
Allow us to persuade you to take a holiday as early as you can and as often as you can with your little one! Yes, we are totally serious. Travelling with children who are not moving around and who are not eating solids yet is far easier than travelling with a crawling, toddling, snacking tornado! We also think, from our own experiences, that if you get your kids accustomed to travelling at a young age, then flights, long journeys and foreign places won’t be too difficult for them as they get older. Many mums face their first trip with fear (totally understandable) but you will get through it. Keep it in perspective, one long day to enjoy many more.
Between the two of us, we have five children. We have done short flights, long haul flights, flights with one child, two children, and three children, flights with any of the previous combination on our own, dealt with delays (even a 10 hour delay), being vomited on mid-flight, car journeys, train journeys, Eurostar journeys – you get the picture. We have taken the viewpoint that children shouldn’t stop you from travelling. Yes, it can be tough, but with a bit of planning and clever packing, it can be made easier. Which will therefore be more enjoyable.
